More than 400 years ago, African warrior Yasuke arrived in Japan in ways that are lost to history. This was during the Japanese Sengoku period.

According to an Italian Jesuit missionary, Yasuke's had a striking physical appearance, was over six feet tall and drew the attention of Oda Nobunaga, a powerful Japanese war lord and head of the Oda clan during that time.

Yasuke was able to serve in his ranks and is likely the first and only black Samurai to perform traditional Samurai duties in Japan.

Marcelle Johnson loves Japan and brought this story to us and after some research, we’ve decided that Marcelle is the modern-day Yasuke. Artist Tim Baron memorialized this concept and idea into Marcelle’s graphic.

The decks are made in the USA with the best Hard Rock Maple and printed here in California, the street shapes are basic pop shapes.
